Water Corridor
水回廊

回形装置：
东方传统的房子，有居住和游憩的双重功能：居住的形式是合院，是数间居室围绕着天井；游憩发生于庭园，是环廊围绕人工的自然。汉字的“回”字是一种全包围结构，同时也是一种空间结构的方式，而这种结构方式又暗示了传统的生活空间。传统的生活空间体现了一种东方式的理想，自然而又朴素，现实而又内敛。在都市膨胀中我们试图重申一种个人空间理想的时候，影像提供了这样一种可能性：在穿过回廊漫步的时候，体验一种影象自然的抽象“萧声”……
展览方案为两个套在一起的盒子：外盒为6x6x2.3米镂空合成纤维板的结构（对角开两扇门），内层为投影幕围合4.5x4.5x2.1米的盒子，内部设置四台投影仪、一台电脑和一套音响。屏幕投射代表各展览城市特征的相对“水”的影像，并辅以抽象的数码音乐。

空间影像：
影像所探寻的是城市中的普通人和母亲河之间的关系。高高的堤岸，完全地阻隔行人的视线。陡峭的过河人行桥，艰难爬行的不仅仅是行人，还有自行车、摩托车。只有在高高的人行桥上才能观望到河景，也在两岸摩天住宅楼的挟持下，拥挤而局促。影像总长12分钟，分为长度相等的4段，每一段有相似的结构，即：沿着河堤行进，上过河人行桥，站于桥上坝望水景。四面投影幕布分别从ABCD不同的节点同时开始循环播放，人在水回廊的盒子中漫步伴随着“城市的自然的水景”。

LOOP INSTALLATION
There are both functions of living and leisure in the oriental traditional house: the living rooms always surround the courtyard, while the circle corridor surrounds the garden, and people can wander around the courtyard. The Chinese character "回" is composed by two closed circle, which can express a kind of spaces, a traditional living space.
Our idea is to create the artificial corridor structure and to interpret an individual space during the current city's expansion. As you're wandering through the transparent corridor, the image of different flowing water expresses the new life experiences in the city.
The in realized object is a structure of "box-in-box": the outer box with size 6x6x2.3m is made in waved-plywood-panel, and the inner box with size 4.5x4.5x2.1m is made in projections screen. Besides, there're four projectors, one computer and one speaker hidden inside.

IMAGE BEYOND SPACE
What the video wants to explore is the relationship between people in the city and the mother river Suzhou creek. The bank is so high, which obstructs the sight; The bridge is so steep, that it's difficult for people, bicycle and motorcycle to pass; the river seems so narrow, which is surrounded by modem residential high building.
It takes 12 minutes to play the video. The video is divided into four parts. Every part has similar structure, which includes walking along the river, then arriving at the bridge and looking around the views. During the exhibition, the video is looped on the four curtains but with different beginning A,B,C or D. Visitors can experience "the natural urban waterscape" when walking in the water-corridor.
